What ColorQuarium Actually Is
At its core, ColorQuarium is two connected web pages. The first is the display page — a full-screen animated scene of fish swimming through a softly lit, colorful aquarium. You open this on whatever screen you want to decorate: a smart TV, a spare monitor, a tablet propped on a shelf, or even a projector at a party.
The second is the remote control page, opened on your phone by scanning a QR code shown on the display. From there you can change the water color, swap in different fish species, adjust the lighting mood, and tweak animation speed — and the display updates live, just like a smart-home app controlling a light bulb.
Why a "Live" Aquarium Instead of a Video?
You could just play an aquarium video on a loop — and plenty of people do. But a looping video is static: same colors, same fish, same mood, every time. ColorQuarium instead renders everything in real time using the browser's graphics engine, which means every element on screen can be changed instantly without reloading or re-downloading anything.
This makes it useful for more than decoration. A coffee shop could shift the aquarium's palette to match the time of day. A streamer could let viewers vote on fish colors. A parent could calm a bedtime routine by dimming the scene and slowing the animation — all from a phone, without touching the display itself.
How the Phone Remote Works
This is the same pattern used by SnapCast's real-time photo walls: the display page and the remote page both stay connected to a small real-time backend. When you tap a new color or fish on your phone, that change is sent instantly to the backend, and the display page — which is listening for updates — receives it and re-renders the scene within a fraction of a second.
Because both pages are just web pages, there's nothing to install on either device. The display can be any screen with a browser, and the remote can be any phone with a camera to scan the QR code.
